Heart of the Community Awards still open for nominations

There is just over a week left for people in the town to make a nomination for Northampton’s inaugural Heart of the Community Awards.

Northampton Borough Council wants to know about the people who make the community a better place to live so that they can be recognised as part of a new civic awards scheme. There are people all over the town who give their time and skills to help other people without any thought of a reward – but now is the time for them to be recognised and publicly thanked.

Are you ready for this year’s general election?

While the date for this year’s general election is not yet known, Northampton Borough Council is urging residents not to wait until the date has been announced before they secure their right to vote.

“The time between the election date being announced and the last chance to register to vote can be a matter of a few days,” warns Ross Thompson, of the Council’s Electoral Services Team. “If you are not on the electoral register, you won’t be able to vote.”

New award to honour people at the heart of our community

Mayor Councillor Michael Hill is launching the Heart of the Community Award at a meeting of Northampton Borough Council on Monday 1 March.

The Heart of the Community Award will be given to people who give their time and skills to help other people without any thought of a reward.

Get in the swim (free swimming)

The central Government initiative that gives all under sixteens and over sixties the chance to swim for free during public sessions has continued to be a roaring success into its third quarter, now moving ahead of Milton Keynes. The latest report on the scheme shows that there have been 104,564 free swims taken in the nine months that the scheme has been running.
