People from all over the town are invited to come down to Victoria Park and Foot Meadow this weekend for a day filled of food, art, activities, beauty treatments and sport.
Just bring yourself and bite to eat to join in with Castle ward’s annual Picnic in the Park, which is taking place from 12pm until 4pm this Saturday, 15 May. People can also visit the Cultural Walkway Community Public Arts Project between 11am and 1pm on Foot Meadow, which is the area next to the river behind St James Retail Park.
The fourth annual event is being hosted by CASPAR+NR to celebrate the community work they have done and to show the people of Northampton what the area has to offer. CASPAR+ NR is a government funded project working to help develop the community in the centre of Northampton, supported by Northampton Borough Council, the county council and Northamptonshire Police.
The community Picnic in the Park celebration focuses on three aspects of Northampton - local food, local health and local sport. There are activities suitable for people of all ages, from climbing and korfball to massages and threading, or why not enjoy an afternoon treat and have a fresh cream tea.
On Foot Meadow, artwork done by people who live in castle ward will be on show to inspire other members of the public to get involved with the local community. There will be a mixture of sculptures and paintings as well and a mural wall, which will remain on show as a long standing exhibit, for visitors to decorate. Food, music and children’s activities, including plant potting and a treasure hunt will also be on offer.
Gemma Craigie, Community Development Officer from CASPAR+NR, said: “Our event has grown over the past four years and Saturday is set to be a wonderful celebration – picnic in the park with the varied activities is just the ticket for a day out with friends and family.
“Castle ward has improved and continues to develop thanks to the hard work of the local community. I hope to see some familiar faces and many more new ones in Victoria Park and at the public art exhibition on Foot Meadow.”
