In Northampton, approximately ½ mile north of the town centre, is the relatively quiet area known as Semilong. Bordered by 3 main roads it contains over 2,000 residences and over 50 local businesses.
Most of the housing is Victorian, primarily 2-3 bedroom homes to the west of Semilong Road, which clings to the side of the valley overlooking the river Nene (locally pronounced as ‘Nen’), the railway and neighbouring Spencer. Larger homes are sited along, and to the east of, Semilong Road itself. There also a number of low rise blocks of flats which are increasing with new developments in the area.
Due to the number of local amenities along Semilong Road, Semilong does seem to have a vibrant heart. Romantics have even referred to the area as ‘The village in the town’.
Amenities
As well as being within walking distance of the town centre, the bus and railway stations there are many local services available within Semilong itself.
